This Marbella Interior Design project required us to transform an old fashioned apartment into a loving holiday home for our Norwegian client. We needed to create something that reflected the personality of our client as well as the functionality required for them to accommodate their family and friends.
The apartment had not been updated since it was bought in 1970, so there were a lot of structural design changes required, particularly in the kitchen. The apartment was cold, dark and aesthetically uninviting. The clients really needed design help in order to create the lovely Marbella holiday apartment that they were longing for.
We dealt with the lighting and practicality issues of the kitchen, firstly by making structural design changes, opening up the kitchen to make optimum use of natural light and take advantage of all the space we could make available.
We removed entrance door to the kitchen and enlarged the opening. The wall dividing the washroom and kitchen was also removed, freeing up space to create a multi-functional kitchen island that brought together a central cooking area with a breakfast bar. An integrated kitchen blends in seamlessly, allowing food preparation to take place more easily in an open and sociable environment.
The kitchen was styled in a matt white finish and features a distinctive, modern backsplash made by a geometric wallpaper and glass.
While the apartment is based in the Marbella area of the Costa del Sol, our clients were still keen to retain their own Scandinavian influences, using the inspiration of a Norwegian cottage and nautical themes for a more personal feel. Taking heed of this, and still keen to embrace the apartment’s tropical garden views, we decided to keep the colour pallet cool and light. We painted the interior walls in different shades of an inviting soft grey colour.
New and elegant furnishings selected include a distinctive elephant patterned sofa in darker grey with blue printed scatter cushions. A recycled wood dining table and upholstered dining chairs provided an inexpensive and extremely stylish seating solution, while a strategically positioned geometric carpet, abstract art and art sculpture adorned the room without overwhelming the surroundings.
Effective and graceful lighting solutions were achieved by adding a false ceiling to two of the bedrooms and using spotlights.
For the master bedroom, we wanted to create a luxurious design space with a grand feel by adding a large leather headboard with studs, and two wooded topped metal bedside tables.
The bathroom was originally very dark and crowded, with dividing walls which we removed to create the illusion of a much larger space. By using the mix of light and dark tiles, we created a feeling of a spa design that work harmoniously with the rest of the interior. All bathroom designs are made in coherent colour pattern and custom-made bathroom furniture in high quality.
